The Western Cape Department of Human Settlements’ Youth in Human Settlements Programme (YiHSP), ensures that young people in the Western Cape are presented with opportunities to upskill and empower themselves within the Built sector.

This is all part of the Western Cape Government’s (WCG) initiative to provide a conducive environment for the youth to reach their full potential, by providing training and opportunities. This is particularly for unemployed young people active or interested to enter the built environment sector.

The YiHS programme focuses on experiential training in the built environment and targets those between 18 – 34 years old. This programme includes:

• Accredited training,
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and basic toolkits will be provided as per the Trade trained in,
• There is no cost to the municipality or contractors, and
• A stipend is provided based on attendance for a period of 3-6 months of employment.

Who Should Apply?

• Previously Disadvantaged individuals
• Unemployed Youth between the age of 18 – 34
• Youth from the surrounding areas of the project.
• Youth from New Horizons, Pinetrees, Qolweni/Bossiegif, and Kwanokuthula

Minimum Requirements:

Youth must have the following to qualify:

• Be SA citizens
• Have a valid barcoded ID document
• Grade 9 or higher
• Able to read and write
• Have an active bank account in their name
• Must be from the identified area

NB: Part of your interview will require you to do a practical.

Documents Required:

Youth must first provide the following certified documentation no older than 3 months:

• Copy of ID
• Proof of address (in youth’s name)
• Proof of banking details (in youth’s name)
• Proof of highest grade pass
