During the first semester of 2016 the Bitou Youth Development Officer Mr D Meyer through of office of the Executive Mayor hosted various training opportunities for your local youth.
The first two modules was facilitated in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and focussed on Small Enterprise Start up Course and Co-operatives
During the month of April 2016 the Accredited First Aid training Level 1, 2 & 3 courses started and 60 candidates completed the courses. The 3 Unit standards was facilitated by TB2B Group and 58 candidates successfully completed the programme and received their certificates of competence on Wednesday 8 June 2016.
The speakers on the day included Ward 2 Councillor Wayne Craig, Manager: Office of the Executive Mayor: Mr S Dladla, Spokesperson for the Executive Mayor Mr M van Rooyen, Acting Municipal Manager Mr D Friedman, Head Corporate Services Mr R Smit and Head Community Services Mr M Stratu
Cll W Craig congratulated the participants on completing the training and stated that he is also a very proud member of Plett NSRI and also practises se the same knowledge they obtained during the span of the course. He further said that “I hope that you will not forget your 3H's and your ABC's”. Cllr spoke about a life saved and the experiences thereafter.
Mr M Stratu highlighted that First Aid training is good for everyday use in and around the house when family and friends are in distress.
Mr R Smit said “education has the power to change the world. The various sports clubs in and around Plett will be in need of a first aider and that might be your stepping stone towards your next opportunity. Make your certificate work for you”.
Mr D Meyer said that if the budget allows then we might look into formal paramedic and or nursing training to enhance the current First Aid qualification obtained by the participants.Last published 04 February 2019
