Players at the Bitou Municipality Mayoral Golf Day were treated to perfect conditions as they all made their way to their respective holes for the 12pm shot-gun start. As the siren sounded the Executive Mayor started his round on the 1st and entertained the crowd gathered with a long drive down the course.
This is the first time that the Mayoral Day has started off the weeks proceedings for the SA Senior Open and which will become a permanent fixture on the Bitou coastline over the next 3 years. The Mayoral Day seeks to raise funds for the Mayor’s Bursary Fund that helps previously disadvantaged students wanting to study at a tertiary institution.
Due to the link with the SA Senior Open, for the first time the Senior Pro’s joined the field for the Mayoral Golf Day and played alongside 3 amateurs in a 4-Ball alliance. The added excitement seemed to encourage the amateurs with chips and puts being drained all over the course.
With significant prize money on the line next week, the Senior Pro’s appreciated the early opportunity to get a feel for the course and hopefully get an advantage for next week’s event while sharing a story or two with local councillors and industry heavyweights.
The Mayoral Day will finish with Prize-Giving and auction in aid of the Mayors Bursary Fund at the Beacon Isle Resort.
About the Sunshine Senior Tour
The newly branded Sunshine Senior Tour, has resulted between a partnership with the SA Senior Tour and the Sunshine Tour, under a license agreement for professional members aged 50 and older in South Africa. The tour structure aims to provide a competitive tournament schedule to accommodate the membership and grow senior professional golf in SA.
In 2017, a partnership was formed with the Endangered Wildlife Trust in which a percentage of the total prize fund is donated to support a specific endangered animal in the region a tournament is held. This will continue and the Humpback Dolphin will again be the deserving recipient.
