Fire in the Bitou Area

Media Release – 01 March 2017

We acknowledge the fact that we had veld fires that have threatened our lives as from Friday 24 February 2017.

  • The response action of our fire fighters has been superb, on time and have managed to arrest the situation.
  • Our tourist destination points that were perceived to be under fire have been rescued.
  • Bitou is proud to have very competent and committed fire-fighters who work tirelessly in ensuring peace and stability to our communities.
  • We commend the Neighbor Watch for their dedication efforts in working together with our team the whole night on Tuesday 28 February 2017.
  • We also counted on working relations with our neighboring towns, such as Knysna and George, as they worked as a unit with our fire-fighters to yield good results in stopping further veld fire damages.
  • For now, the fire is under control after we have allowed it to en-route down the stream in order for it to subside and there is no cause for panic.
  • The N2 route near Goose Valley and Old Nick is operational and it is business as usual.
  • “We are best together”
