BITOU RECENTLY HOSTED THE GOLDEN GAMES FOR THE ELDERLY & DISABLED
This event was organized by the office of the Executive Mayor, through Mr Stanley Juries and Mrs Cingi Sonjani. It took place on Friday 23 October 2015 at the Plettenberg Bay Rugby field.
The purpose of the sports day was to bring the Older Persons & Disability fraternities together. This incorporates the awareness around leading a healthy and sporty lifestyle within our communities.
Western Cape Older Persons Forum representative for the Eden & Karoo Region Mr Heinrich Blaaw acted as the MC on the day.
The Municipality was represented by Cllr Elaine Paulse; Cllr Sumeia Ndayi and the Executive Mayor Cllr Memory Booysen, who also ran the first 100m race of the day. In his key note address Mayor Booysen said; Welcome to all the young participants and thank you for being so strong-willed and for making these games possible. These games are made possible for you –by you, we as the municipality are only facilitating the event. You are the event.
These Golden Games was an initiative started by the Department of Social Development in partnership with Bitou Local Municipality and it has now become an annual sporting event on our calendar as well.
All the wards in Bitou were well represented by either their Older Persons Club or their Disabled groups or both.
