The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Ms. Candith Mashego-Dlamini will launch the One Household One Hectare programme by handing over farming implements to the Umyezo Eden Garden Cooperative in Plettenberg Bay.
Umyezo Eden Garden Cooperative was registered as a cooperative on 31 May 2017 and is a departmental project falling under the One Household, One Hectare Programme, in partnership with the Bitou Local Municipality. It is located in Plettenberg Bay, in the Kwa-Nokuthula settlement.
The 14 beneficiaries on the 3 hectare piece of land, Erf 407/437, consisting of elderly men and women specialize in crop production e.g. vegetables like spinach, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes etc. The land currently owned by the Bitou Municipality will soon be handed over officially to the beneficiaries by the Municipality through a Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Agreement.
In addition, the launch will afford Political Principals an opportunity to communicate government-led efforts aimed at advancing youth economic empowerment to stimulate and grow the South African economy.
