MEDIA STATEMENT BY BITOU MUNICIPALITY EXECUTIVE MAYOR ON THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF COUNCILLOR VICTOR’FREEZE’MOLOSI OF KNYSNA MUNICIPALITY
The passing of Councillor (Cllr.) Victor “Freeze” Molosi on Monday 23 July 2018 saddens the Executive Mayor Cllr Peter Lobese of Bitou Municipality Council. Another community has been robbed of a valuable leader. The municipal council administration family has been robbed a servant of the people and his political party the ANC has been robbed a loyal comrade. Cllr. Molosi was a ward councillor in the Knysna Municipality also serving in the Garden Route District Municipality and a Deputy Secretary of the ANC in the South Cape District. Cllr Molosi was shot dead by unknown persons in front of his residence, succumbed to his injuries at Knysna Hospital.
I would therefore on behalf of Bitou municipality send our deepest condolences to his family and the community of Knysna that he served, may they find solace in knowledge that we all painfully share their loss. Cllr Molosi was a good man who cared about his community and worked diligently for the upliftment of community.
As the Mayor of Bitou, I would also want to say to all leaders regardless of which party to belong to or what ideology we subscribe to, as councilors, just like all other political activists, we are there to serve our communities.
We are urging the government to act decisively and with speed in apprehending these criminals. The killing of political office bearers is becoming a norm in South Africa and is entering the community of the Western Cape.
