The Early Childhood Development (ECD) is one of the programmes under the office of the Executive Mayor.
The relationship between the ECD’s and Bitou Municipality started when Mr Euan Wildeman was the Mayor of Bitou Municipality then it continued when Mr Lulama Mvimbi took over as the Executive Mayor. Bitou Municipality have a good relationship with the ECD forum, which is not only involving the community crèches, but also the home base crèches.
Early Childhood Development Centre (Crèches) is a facility that provides learning and support appropriate to the child’s developmental age and stage. It is an “umbrella term” that refers to the processes by which children from birth to nine years of age grow and flourish socially, physically and mentally. Government emphasises the importance of an integrated approach to child development covering the areas of child’s health, nutrition, education, psycho-social and other environmental factors within the context of the family and the community.
Bitou Municipality has followed Professor Kader Asmal’s dream to ensure that young Children in Bitou have safe places to play where their developments and education needs can be met. Early Childhood development is critical for the future well-being of young children.
Early childhood education is the term commonly used to describe the formal teaching and care of young children by people other than their family or in settings outside of the home.
Bitou Municipality ensures that all ECD facilities are registered and that those who qualify receive appropriate support from government.
