While no loss of life was recorded in the Bitou area due to the heavy downpour at the weekend, the Bitou Disaster Management team remains on high alert.
The team has issued a warning to residents living in low-lying areas near Keurbooms River of possible flooding. Supervisor at the Bitou Disaster Management Nolan Stuurman says the Prince Alfred Pass is overflowing which could lead to flooding further downstream.
“People must remove their boats out of the Keurbooms River and must be on high alert,” he said. Stuurman has also issued a warning to residents on the roads.
He said: “Residents must be careful when driving on Nature’s Valley Road and the old Keurboomstrand Road because of rockfalls and trees.
If residents spot any of these, they must report them to the control room through any of the emergency lines.
